Medical Device Authority approved Establishment License for HWGB’s subsidiary to distribute medical devices

KUALA LUMPUR, 26 OCTOBER 2020 â€“ HWGB Medical Devices & Supplies Sdn Bhd (HWGB Medical Devices & Supplies”), formerly known as HWG Duty Free Sdn Bhd is a 70%-owned subsidiary of Ho Wah Genting Berhad (“HWGB” or the “Company”) (Bursa Stock Code:9601) obtained approval from MDA for its establishment license application.
 
With the establishment license, HWGB Medical Devices & Supplies Sdn Bhd is now able to act as a local authorised representative, for the import, storage, and handling, warehousing, distribution (including transportation), installation, testing, and commissioning (including required facilities), maintenance and calibration (including required facilities) and documentation (including traceability of medical devices) of medical devices, specifically in electro-mechanical medical devices, hospital hardware, in-vitro diagnostics devices, single-use devices, complementary therapy devices and laboratory equipment approved by MOH. 
 
Dr. Yaman Walid Kassab, who is the General Manager, Medical & Pharmaceutical Research of Ho Wah Genting Berhad’s subsidiary expressed: “Obtaining this establishment license is a boost for our diversification into the healthcare-related industry as we want to ensure that the medical devices are handled in a safe and secure manner every step within the distribution chain.”
 
HWGB Medical Devices and Supplies Sdn Bhd has been certified by Genuine Diamond Sdn Bhd, a conformity assessment body, as having implemented a good distribution practice for the medical devices management system. The certification dated 28 September 2020, is for three years and complies with the Good Distribution Practice for Medical Devices that come under the purview of the Ministry of Health’s Medical Device Authority. The certification covers electromechanical medical devices, hospital hardware, in-vitro diagnostics devices, single-use devices, complementary therapy devices, and laboratory equipment.

Dr.Yaman Walid Kassab is an Assistant Professor of Clinical Pharmacy. He obtained his Ph.D. in Clinical Pharmacy at University Science Malaysia (USM) in 2013. He possesses 7 years of experience in academia, specifically in the pharmacotherapy field. He is actively involved in medical research and publication and has published more than 40SCOPUS/ISI indexed research papers and has supervised more than 50 research projects and 20 postgraduate research students. He is also serving as an Editorial Board member of several reputed international journals like “Frontiers in Pharmacology”, “Archives of Pharmacy Practice (APP)”, “Journal of Medical and Pharmaceutical Innovation (JMPI)”, ”Annals of Cardiology and Cardiovascular Diseases”, “Updates in Public Health and Preventive Medicine” He has been a member of many international professional bodies such as International Association of Therapeutic Drug Monitoring & Clinical Toxicology in CANADA, Syndicate of Syrian Pharmacists, Malaysian Association of Education in Medicine & Health Sciences, Malaysian Pharmaceutical Society.
