HO WAH GENTING BERHAD WELCOMES DATO’ JAMES LIM AS 2ND FINANCIAL ADVISOR TO SPUR INVESTMENT OPPORTUNITIES

KUALA LUMPUR, 5 FEBRUARY 2021 - Ho Wah Genting Berhad (“HWGB” or the “Company”) (Bursa Stock Code: 9601) today announced the Company appoints Yang Berbahagia Dato’ James Lim Cheng Poh (“Dato’ James”), as the advisor to provide investment management and advisory services to the Board of HWGB.
 
Prior to his appointment, Dato’ James has a long association with holding leading roles in companies, last holding the position of an Independent non-Executive Chairman on the board of LYC Healthcare Berhad. The directorship he holds there would not be the last on his exemplary resume, as over the span of his career he holds directorship in several companies.
 
Chief Executive Officer of HWGB, Dato’ Aaron Lim expressed: “We are delighted to welcome Dato’ James to the Board. He has an impressive proven record of leading companies into greater heights and we believe he will be able to advise the Group on the possible investment opportunities of HWG capital going to make moving forward”.
 
Dato’ James, aged 72, graduated from Camborne School of Mines, Cornwall, England in Mining Engineering. He also obtained a Masters Degree in Science (Applied Engineering) from Queen’s University at Kingston, Ontario, Canada and a Masters Degree in Business Administration from Harvard University Graduate School of Business Administration, Massachusetts, USA.
 
He has over 48 years of working experience when he started his career in Malaysia as a mining engineer in Osborne & Chappel International in 1972 and subsequently became a shareholder and Executive Director. In 1983, he joined the Hong Leong Group Malaysia as the Managing Director for Hong Leong Credit Berhad. Then in 1994, the Group acquired a small Malaysian bank and renamed it Hong Leong Bank, where he was then appointed as the Senior Group Managing Director of this bank. Under his leadership, Hong Leong Bank flourished and grew from an asset base of RM3 billion in 1994 to RM45 billion with a pre-tax profit of over RM800 million for the financial year just ended (30 June 2003). Dato’ James retired from the bank and the Group in 2003 after serving the group for 21 years.
 
In 2004, Dato’ James joined AmBank (M) Berhad as its Managing Director/ Chief Executive Officer. After the merger of the business operations of AmBank Berhad and AmFinance Berhad (renamed as AmBank (M) Berhad) on 1 June 2005, Dato' James was appointed as Managing Director of Business Banking. Furthermore, Dato' James has also served as a Director of AmAssurance Berhad.

Ho Wah Genting Berhad (“HWGB” or the “Company”) is principally engaged in investment holdings and the provision of management services to its subsidiaries. The Company had on 30 June 2020 diversified its existing businesses to include healthcare-related industry which mainly involved in Health Supplement, Biotechnology and Health Technology. In addition, the Company and its subsidiaries (“HWGB Group” or the “Group”) are also engaging in the businesses of Investment holdings; manufacturing of wires and cables and moulded power supply cord sets and cable assemblies for electrical and electronic devices and equipment; Trading of wires and cables; and travel agent and tour related services.
