MEDICAL DEVICE AUTHORITY APPROVED HWGB'S IMPORTATION AND SUPPLY OF POST COVID-19 VACCINE ANTIBODY DETECTION KITS

KUALA LUMPUR, 10 JUNE 2021 – Ho Wah Genting Berhad (“HWGB” or the “Company”) (Bursa Stock Code: 9601), through its subsidiary HWGB Medical Devices and Supplies Sdn Bhd, (“HWGB Medical Devices”) had been special access approval by the Medical Device Authority (“MDA”), Ministry of Health Malaysia on the importation and supply of OJABIO SARS-CoV-2 Neutralizing Antibody Detection Kit (Colloidal Gold Method) (“OJABIO Test Kit”) manufactured Wenzhou OJA Biotechnology Co. Ltd’s (“WOJA”). The special access approval allows HWGB Medical Devices & Supplies to import up to 12,000 units of the OJABIO Test Kit. Previously on 10 December 2020, HWGB Medical Devices was authorized by WOJA to be the exclusive distributor of the OJABIO Test Kit in Malaysia and Indonesia in a letter of authorization.
 
WOJA was founded to focus on the development of testing solutions for COVID-19 prior to the pandemic outbreak. The founders of WOJA and its panel of medical experts were working on perfecting the methods to accurately and efficiently diagnose various diseases and viruses. WOJA is also an extension of BIOSIC, a company specializing in early cancer detection and disease diagnosis.
 
The OJABIO Test Kit is used to confirm the production of the COVID-19 virus-neutralizing antibody in the human body and it is suitable for neutralizing antibody detection in samples from individuals who have taken the vaccines or recovering Covid-19 patient. The neutralizing antibody is an important marker for assessing the effectiveness of the COVID-19 vaccines and from recovering Covid-19 patients.
 
Executive Director of HWGB, Mr Bernard Lim Wee Kiat said: “The special access approval granted by the MDA, Ministry of Health Malaysia had come in a timely manner. With the rising number of COVID-19 vaccinations administered to the public, we believe that the OJABIO Test Kit will be useful as this will give them reassurance on the effectiveness of the COVID-19 vaccines that they have received”.
