Ho Wah Genting Berhad’s subsidiary certified for Good Distribution Practice For Medical Devices

KUALA LUMPUR, 2 OCTOBER 2020 – “Obtaining this certification is a boost for our diversification into the healthcare-related industry as we want to ensure that the medical devices are handled in a safe and secure manner every step within the distribution chain” said Dr.Yaman Walid Kassab, who is the .General Manager, Medical & Pharmaceutical Research of Ho Wah Genting Berhad’s subsidiary.
Dr.Yaman Walid Kassab who has a PhD in Clinical Pharmacy  brings a wealth of experience in pharmacotherapy field and is actively involved in medical research.
Ho Wah Genting Berhad’s (“HWGB” or the “Company”) (Bursa Stock Code:9601) ,subsidiary, HWGB Medical Devices & Supplies Sdn Bhd [formerly known as HWG Duty-Free Sdn Bhd] has been certified by Genuine Diamond Sdn Bhd, a conformity assessment body, as having implemented a good distribution practice for medical devices management system.
The certification dated 28 September 2020, is for three years and complies with the Good Distribution Practice For Medical Devices that comes under the purview of the Ministry of Health’s Medical Device Authority.
The certification covers electro mechanical medical devices, hospital hardware, in-vitro diagnostics devices, single-use devices, complementary therapy devices and laboratory equipment. The scope of certification includes being an authorised representative; importing; storage & handling; warehousing, distribution (including transportation); installation; testing & commissioning (including required facilities); maintenance and calibration (including required facilities) and; documentation (including traceability of medical devices).
This latest announcement, together with the earlier announcements and updates that have been made on the COVID-19 vaccine trial progress as well as the distribution of COVID-19 test kits, testifies to the Company’s commitment in growing this business which has a lot of potential.
In March, the Company was authorised by in-vitro diagnostics manufacturer Wuhan Easydiagnosis Biomedicine Co Ltd to distribute COVID-19 nucleic acid test kits and nucleic acid extraction reagents in Malaysia.
HWGB was also appointed by Shanghai Liangrun Biomedicine Technology Co Ltd in May as the authorised distributor of COVID-19 diagnostic kits in Malaysia.

Dr.Yaman Walid Kassab is an assistant Professor of Clinical Pharmacy. He obtained his PhD in Clinical Pharmacy at University Science Malaysia (USM) in 2013. He possesses 7 years of experience in the academia, specifically in the pharmacotherapy field. He is actively involved in medical research and publication and has published more than 40SCOPUS/ISI indexed research papers and has supervised more than 50 research projects and 20 postgraduate research students. He is also serving as an editorial Board member of several reputed international journals like “Frontiers in Pharmacology”, “Archives of Pharmacy Practice (APP)” , “Journal of Medical and Pharmaceutical Innovation (JMPI)” , ”Annals of Cardiology and Cardiovascular Diseases” , “Updates in Public Health and Preventive Medicine” He has been a member of many international professional bodies such as International Association of Therapeutic Drug Monitoring & Clinical Toxicology in CANADA, Syndicate of Syrian Pharmacists, Malaysian Association of Education in Medicine & Health Sciences, Malaysian Pharmaceutical Society.
